Oil, Energy, & Food

While we're bitching about high gas prices, the people of the Third World are going hungry, thanks to a confluence of factors including soaring oil prices, U.S. subsidies to corn farmers for ethanol, and global warming.

A global food shortage, not to mention an energy crisis, was forecast years ago, vis-á-vis Peak Oil.  In case you haven't heard, there is a finite amount of the black stuff in the earth, and we've already burned up half of it.  The first half was easy to get; the last half is a lot trickier.  And our whole civilization is built upon the availability of cheap oil.
